Innovations for Maternal Health
PATH
How does an NGO advance its agenda at a crowded global gathering?

Challenge:

How to focus attention on one of the most challenging Millennium Development Goals — maternal health — and position PATH and its partners in developing practical, effective solutions.

Insight:

The “best buys” in global health are often low-cost, culturally-relevant solutions that need to be delivered at scale to achieve maximum impact. At the 2013 UN General Assembly, PATH worked with partners on a roadmap to address gaps and opportunities in maternal and child health.

Program:

  • Coordinated with partners to identify the top 10 solutions to improving maternal health to be featured in the Breakthrough Innovations report.

  • Aligned key influencers to support the “top 10” approach through multiple events and briefings at the UN General Assembly gathering.

  • Convened an invite-only launch for dignitaries and media featuring a hands-on innovation showcase of PATH and partner products.

Results:

Achieved significant media coverage and donor engagement with the launch of the 2013 inaugural report, the first of several that PATH produced to focus attention on global health issues and to showcase PATH’s role as an innovator and collaborator.
